Activity 11.3

As the phone rang, music from ‘The Plain White Tees’ plaid in the background. She tapped her fingers in time with the music for a few minutes and then ended the call. After putting her mobile down at the side of her she turned her XBOX on and started playing a card game.

‘Did he answer?’

‘Nope. He must be busy; again.’

‘Have you spoken to her yet dude?’

‘Nah, mate. Every time she calls we’re either doing block jobs or being bollocked off a corporal. I always miss it, just phone calls.’

He put the ironing board away and sat on the edge of the bed to type what must have been the tenth message of the day.

The pair sat in the restaurant facing each other. An awkward silence lay over them while they ate at the small table in corner. It only compounded the feeling in both of them.

‘The lasagnes nice.’

‘I come here a lot; I nearly always have a burger though.’

She nodded in response but said nothing.

‘How was the drive over?’

‘The M62 was busy, but other than that it didn’t take as long as I thought it would.’

The room was dark when she woke up. She rolled over and put her arms around him, resting her head on his chest.

‘I love you babe.’
