Part One – Back Story and Summary – The Children were bored.

The children were in year six, all ten or eleven years old and they were preparing for their SAT’s in a few weeks time. The table at the back were nearly always bored, the teacher felt sorry for them. The best students in her class – she expected good grades from them, but she worried that she wasn’t extending their activities enough to make them work. The problem wasn’t them though and it wasn’t her, but the rest of the class. They were slowing the group down and there was nothing at all that she could do about it. They fidgeted, tapped their pens against the desk and whispered quite often. She didn’t begrudge them that though, they stayed quiet enough not to disturb the rest of the class. She’d have to start doing them separate worksheets to push them on a bit further from the rest of the class to help them strive for the higher marks she knew they were capable of achieving. Maybe they’ll be able to make the exercises last a bit longer that way as well, they won’t get as bored then while they wait for the rest of the class to finish.
